Workspace Sync vs Contactzilla

Both products get a Google Workspace directory onto phones. They do it in different ways.

Contactzilla pushes contacts into the phone’s built-in Contacts app. Staff do not install a directory app. Setup is usually through mobile device management (MDM), or a QR profile on each phone.

Workspace Sync is a dedicated iOS and Android app. An admin connects Google Workspace once. Each person signs in with their work Google account. There is no MDM and no profile to push.

If your company already runs MDM and wants company contacts inside the native address book, Contactzilla fits. If you want a directory app without MDM, with one-tap WhatsApp and per-field privacy, Workspace Sync fits.

The real difference: app vs address book

Contactzilla’s pitch is “no apps to install.” Contacts land in the stock Contacts app, so caller ID and search behave like any other contact. That is strong when IT already controls phones with MDM.

Workspace Sync’s pitch is the opposite shape: a directory app staff open when they need a colleague. Admins choose who can sign in, who appears, and which fields each person sees. Personal and work contacts stay separate.

Pricing example (same headcount)

Assume 50 people who need the directory.

  • Workspace Sync: first 5 free → 45 × €1 = €45 / month (plus VAT where applicable).
  • Contactzilla (MDM 1): 50 × $1.79 ≈ $89.50 / month, billed annually on their public MDM 1 band.

When to pick Contactzilla

  • Phones are company-managed and MDM is already in place.
  • You need contacts inside the native Contacts app.
  • Staff should not install another app.

When to pick Workspace Sync

  • BYOD or light device management — you will not enroll every phone in MDM just for a directory.
  • You want admins to hide sensitive fields per policy.
  • Field and agency teams live in WhatsApp and need one-tap reach from a directory.
  • You want to start free (5 users) and grow at €1 per extra seat.

Bottom line

Contactzilla is an MDM-friendly native Contacts sync. Workspace Sync is a no-MDM Google Workspace directory app with cheap seats and field-friendly actions.
