Turn on Walkie-Talkie
Live push-to-talk inside your existing groups. Off by default, on per group, free during the beta.
Walkie-Talkie lets people hold a button and talk to a colleague or to a whole group, and leaves a short voice message for anyone who missed it. It is a module of Workspace Sync, not a separate product: it uses the same people, the same groups and the same seat.
Two switches, in this order
- Settings → Features → Walkie-Talkie. The switch for your whole organization. Off by default. While it is off, nothing works, for anyone, anywhere: no app can join, no voice is carried, no message is stored. This is enforced on our servers, not just hidden in the app.
- Contacts → Groups → Walkie-Talkie on each group that should have it. Nothing is ever turned on silently, including for department groups.
Membership follows App access: everyone in the group who has the app can talk in it. Adding a person to the group, or giving them access, is all it takes.
What your team sees
A Talk tab appears in the app once at least one of their groups has Walkie-Talkie on. In it they see their groups, can hold to talk to the group or to one person directly, and get a push notification and a voice inbox for anything they missed. Talk to your group is the team-side page.
Voice, recording and privacy
- Live audio is not recorded. It is carried between the phones and gone.
- A short recording of each message is kept so that colleagues who were not listening can play it. Recent messages are kept for seven days so people can replay them, then deleted automatically.
- Nothing is ever shown in Walkie-Talkie beyond a person’s name, photo, work email and whether they are online.
The Privacy Policy describes the processing of voice, including the providers that carry and transcribe it. If your organization is not permitted to record employees’ voices, leave the organization switch off: it is a real off switch.
Beta
Walkie-Talkie is in beta and free while it is. It is included in the seat, and no feature of Workspace Sync is priced separately. If it misbehaves, tell us from the chat and mention the group and the time.
